How to Make Cooking Fun

Source

Among all of the different hobbies that you can pick up throughout your life, there really are few better than cooking. Not only is cooking an incredibly fun and relaxing way to spend your time but it’s also a hobby that provides you with a useful skill. After all, what better way to spend your time than by doing something you enjoy while also creating delicious meals for you, your friends, and your family to enjoy. Of course, it’s easy to feel like you’re getting into a bit of a rut when it comes to your cooking. With that in mind, here are some things that you can do to bring a little more life into your cooking and make it more fun.

Season your food

There is perhaps nothing more disappointing in life than unseasoned food. Taking a bite of something and discovering that it’s utterly bland and tasteless can ruin your whole day. A lot of people worry about seasoning their food because they aren’t necessarily sure what kinds of flavours do and don’t work. The best way to get through this is simply through practice. By making all kinds of dishes, you get to know what kinds of flavours play well together. For example, check out the best recipe for shrimp and grits. Not only is this dish delicious on its own merits, but it also lets you see a great way to bring smokey, creamy richness to any dish.

Express yourself

As you get more and more into cooking, you’ll find that you discover dishes, styles, and flavours that you like more than others. This gives you the chance to start expressing yourself through your cooking. Combine styles and flavours that you love until you’re able to create a cooking style that just about anyone could easily recognise as all yours right from the very first bite.

Don’t be afraid to experiment

Failure is a part of life and it’s a part of cooking too. The truth is that if you want to make your cooking more exciting then you’ve got to be willing to try new things, and no one ever tries anything new without the risk of something not working perfectly. It’s okay to experiment in the kitchen, even if a dish doesn’t come out perfectly. Understanding why some dishes do and don’t work is one of the best ways that you can ensure that you’re always pushing your culinary skills forward and that your cooking never becomes stale or boring. Not only will the people eating your food appreciate this, but it helps to make cooking a more dynamic and fun activity for you.

What’s more, sometimes you’ll find simple and creative ways to fix whatever the problem is with your dish. For example, there are numerous ways to fix watery tuna salad, so even if you don’t get it right the first time, you can also make some little changes to do it better!

It’s incredibly easy for cooking to begin to feel like an obligation rather than something you enjoy. After all, sometimes you can’t cook for pleasure and you just have to make something to put food on the table. However, by making sure that you’re putting as much passion and care into everything you make, you can be sure that there’s always as much life and soul in your cooking as possible and that you have fun along the way.

  1. My younger sister has recently decided that she wants to get more into cooking. I am so glad you mentioned how experimenting in the kitchen is a great way to enjoy cooking more. I’d imagine that it would also be fun for my sister to start food blogging so she can document the whole process.

    1. So glad to hear it, Charlotte! Yes, experimenting is great–I like to look around the supermarket for items I might not have prepared before as a way to experiment. Most recently prepared dandelion greens sauteed with garlic and onion!
