Banana and smoothie

Whether you enjoy a smoothie for breakfast or as an afternoon snack, this refreshing mango protein smoothie offers a quick, tropical escape during your daily routine! Smoothies offer a quick and easy way to boost your fruit intake, with the added benefit of being portable. The addition of Greek yogurt in this smoothie helps boost the protein content, which helps keep you feeling full longer so you can tackle the day ahead.

Smoothies are a great, quick option for a breakfast or snack and provide a convenient way to add more servings of fruits (and in some cases vegetables) to your daily routine. We all know the dietary guidelines recommend consuming 2 cups of fruit per day, but reaching this goal is often a challenge in our daily lives. Barriers such as cost, transportation, lack of quality or variety, changing food environments, and changing societal norms can impede our best efforts to eat the recommended number of servings of fruits.

With more research showing the adverse effects of low fruit and vegetable intake, such as increased risk for chronic disease like diabetes and heart disease, the inclination to reach the recommended servings has increased. One (delicious!) way to increase fruit consumption is by blending up your favorite fruits into a smoothie! By blending together your favorite fruits with ½ cup of Greek yogurt, you are not only increasing your intake of fruits, but will have the added benefit of feeling full longer thanks to the 12 grams of protein provided by the Greek yogurt. Greek yogurt is also a great source of probiotics, the good bacteria that lives in our intestines that help the body maintain health.
